Tj's Jamaican Spice
About This Spot
Walking into Tj's Jamaican Spice, you’re welcomed by a warm, unpretentious energy that feels both familiar and inviting. Nestled along Wilmington’s bustling Market Street, this spot hums with the gentle rhythm of casual dining—conversations blend with the aromas of rich spices and slowly simmered stews, creating a sensory snapshot of home-cooked Jamaican fare. The pace here carries the comfortable cadence of a neighborhood favorite, where locals return not just for the food but for the lively, patient warmth of the people behind the counter.
The vibrant flavors and generous portions are a steady draw, inviting guests to savor dishes where every bite tells a story of tradition and comfort. Whether it’s the tender stews or the fiery jerk preparations, the menu offers a layered experience that fans often find themselves returning to, even if it means waiting for certain fan-favorite items to be available. There’s a tangible excitement in the air as plates of curry-infused chicken with rice and beans and freshly baked coco bread make their way across the room, grounding the atmosphere in hearty satisfaction.
What stands out is the genuine care expressed not only in the food but in the way people are treated—attentive and friendly encounters create moments that feel more like a communal gathering than a quick meal. The crowd spills from tables to the sidewalk at peak times, a quiet testament to the spot’s role as a hub for those seeking an authentic taste of Jamaican comfort in Delaware. In every way, Tj’s Jamaican Spice echoes the pulse of its community: vibrant, welcoming, and patiently savoring the pleasures of good food shared among neighbors.

My favorite Jamaican spot in Wilmington. Food is always fresh, taste amazing, and portions are generous. Wait is usually about 5-10mins when I go around lunch time. Only downside is that some menu items sell out. Highly recommend.

Listen!! I had to stop eating my food to write this review! That’s how great my mini curry chicken platter is!! Like I always see a line and/or people standing outside, going in and coming out, but I don’t eat a lot of ethnic foods because of the parts of the meat that they use. I decided to hit them up today and get the curry shrimp, but they were sold out, I imagine, based on the fact that they open around 1130am and people are ALWAYS already outside waiting, that they’d run out of the really good stuff early! I expressed that I don’t really like thigh meat and would prefer a drumstick/mostly white meat/no fat, etc and she delivered! The food is delish!! Not too spicy!! Great portion!! I am very pleased that I can enjoy my food!! Thank you!!!

They are always very nice and patient with me when I come here. My two favorite items are the jerk alfredo and the pepper steak. They have the best Jamaican food in Wilmington.

Food was good...Portion was generous. It was my first time. I tried the Curry Goat Meal and Jamaican Patty! The food was 5 stars! I just wish someone would have answered the phone. I tried to call ahead from my car because there was no available parking. I had to wait a long time for a space to open up. I was about to give up. I am new to Delaware and wanted to really try it out since the reviews were good.
